We often assume that switching from paper to digital automatically makes our work more sustainable. In reality, responsible digitalisation goes far beyond using technology. It means making conscious choices that consider accessibility, inclusion, digital wellbeing, data protection and environmental impact.
The In-DigiT project was created to help educators, trainers and organisations make those choices with confidence. Through a collection of practical resources, the project supports a more responsible approach to digital learning, one that benefits both people and the planet.
What Does Responsible Digitalisation Look Like?
Responsible digitalisation isn't about using more technology, it's about using technology better. It means asking questions such as:
These questions are becoming increasingly important as education and training continue to evolve in digital environments. Whether you're delivering online workshops, managing learning platforms or creating digital resources, every decision has an impact.
Practical Resources That Turn Ideas into Action
Knowing what responsible digitalisation means is only the first step. Putting it into practice requires guidance, inspiration and practical tools. That is why the In-DigiT partnership developed a comprehensive set of free resources that help organisations and educators improve their digital practices.
Booklet of 50 Good Practices
The booklet brings together inspiring examples from across Europe, showcasing initiatives that successfully combine digital innovation with sustainability, accessibility and inclusion. These real-life examples demonstrate that responsible digitalisation is already happening and can be adapted to different educational contexts.
Self-Assessment Tool
Every organisation is at a different stage of its digital journey. The Self-Assessment Tool helps organisations evaluate their current practices, identify strengths and recognise areas for improvement. It serves as a practical starting point for developing a more responsible digital strategy.
Training Toolkits
The In-DigiT Training Toolkit consists of an online training course of ten interactive modules covering key topics such as ethical digital practices, digital inclusion, accessibility, cybersecurity, environmental sustainability and digital wellbeing.
Designed for adult educators, trainers and organisations, the course combines practical knowledge with real-world examples that participants can immediately apply in their own work. Along with the digital training course, two digital escape games are also available to explore the principles of inclusive and responsible digitalisation through immersive storytelling, problem-solving, and collaborative decision-making.
Small Changes Can Make a Big Difference
Responsible digitalisation doesn't require starting from scratch. Often, meaningful change begins with small, conscious decisions: choosing more accessible resources, reducing unnecessary digital waste, protecting learners' privacy or creating more inclusive online learning experiences. When these small improvements become part of everyday practice, they contribute to stronger organisations, more engaged learners and a more sustainable digital future.
